14th Annual Paiute Meadows Trail Run 2007
A record 101 walkers and runners finished the 14th annual Paiute Meadows Trail Run Saturday at Susanville Ranch Park under beautiful sunny skies with a light breeze making for perfect running conditions.
After missing last year’s race, 46-year-old Terry Daley of Portola won his 5th Paiute Meadows title, winning the 4.7-mile race in a time of 28:32. Sadie Solem (24 of Anderson) improved her course record by 19 seconds to win the women’s title (31:08), but Solem had to hold off local 14-year-old Tiffany Helfin who was hot on her heals. Solem won for the third time but by only eight seconds to the younger Heflin who will be entering Lassen High School in September.
One of the most surprising runs of the day was by Lassen High School teacher Jim Reichle who has struggled with a serious knee injury for the past 5 years. His training rarely includes actual running with a focus instead on using the stairmaster training machine. Yet, Reichle managed to run pain free for the 4.7 miles, finished fourth overall, and won his age group with a time of 32:21.
Laurence Crabtree, 54 of Bieber, ran an excellent time of 11:34 to win the 2-mile race with 13-year-old Armando Lucatero a half minute behind. Lynette Garringer took the women’s two mile run in 12:59.
9-year-old Kenny Jones beat the two Williams brothers in a tight finish to win the kid’s one mile in a time of 6:13. Jacob Williams was only 4 ticks behind Jones, and Wesley Williams was just a second behind his brother. Young Jones went on to place 5th overall in the two mile run. Twelve-year-old Greta Porfiri was first girl in 6:54.
Chris Lilly was fastest male walker while local teacher Sandy Pudlicki was the fastest woman.
Thanks to all those who participated!
